Group Calendar 5.0d10 April 26th, 2009

Lots of work on international support in this build. I’ve ported as much of the localization from GC4 as I could and it covered quite a lot of the UI, so now French, German, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Russian and Korean are supported in GC5. Also, weeks can start on a Monday! GC4 had an explicit command-line option for this but now that WoW has a calendar there is built-in support, so GC5 just uses the setting from WoW.

Also new in this one is the first piece of multi-guild alliance support. This piece shares guild rosters between your alts and makes them available in the event Invite tab. This is sort of a poor-man’s alliance since you can use it to manage an alliance by putting an alt into each of the allied guilds and logging into it once in a while to update the roster. Eventually I’ll have the Alliance tab working which will allow you to create partnerships between your character and one in another guild to exchange rosters.

The last build was nearly all bugfixes and this build is nearly all features! Local time support is done so you can finally view and manage your events in your native time zone instead of the server zone. Also, at long last, you can actually change the date of an event! No need to re-create an event just because it got bumped to Thursday anymore.

I think I got everything tested so this should be a good build with patch 3.1 compatibility. No new features in this one, it’s all bugfixes. Well, I guess Guild Events counts as a feature sort of, but it was supposed to already be working so hmm…

This build fixes all of the bugs I could find in the event editor (note that repeat and auto-close are still unimplemented). Templates now remember the invite list and other event settings correctly, which should fix the problem with the Invite tab jamming up. This build also has a partial German translation (as much as I could take directly from GC4) and I’ll work on getting French and other languages up soon.

Didn’t get much done on Group Calendar 5 the past few days but I did get a few reported bugs fixed which were making GC5 unsuitable for everyday use. The roles you assign to players are now remembered like they should be and the expand all buttons on the Invite and Group tabs work properly.

I tried to take my time and really get the event editor fleshed out and debugged for this release so that it would be suitable for day-to-day use for most users. 5.0d3 is the result with the event viewer/editor largely complete, missing only support for guild announcements and auto-confirmations. The Invite tab should be fully functional now as should the Group tab, so please let me know of bugs you find while using those features. The next release (5.0d4) will add guild announcement support and I hope to also get multi-guild alliance support in as well (or at least get a good start on it). Let me know what you think so far (via the forums here on the site please), I certainly appreciate constructive feedback and of course encouragement :)

This table is a list of the features of GC4, GC5 and WoW showing which features are available in which products. If you see anything missing or incorrect, please post on the GC5 forum to let me know and I’ll get it corrected.

Group Calendar 4.4.1 February 25th, 2009

During development I often disable the synch code in GC to speed up my turnaround. I usually remember to turn it back on before I release a build, but I forgot in 4.4. Without the synch period, users who use more than one computer, or those who have friends/spouses who log into their account and also run GC, will have trouble with their events not following them correctly from machine to machine.

This update is a minor change over 4.4 and should not risk any new problems, so I recommend using it to avoid roaming problems.

I’m working hard on getting the event editor/viewer finished before I release another development preview. Preview 5.0d2 was kind of a dud, lots of broken stuff, so I’m going to try to make sure 5.0d3 has lots of usable/working functionality.

The biggest thing I’m working on now is the Group tab, which will have the raid management features. I’m trying to work in some nice improvements over GC5’s predecessors by including tracking players who’ve left the raid (how long they were in, which bosses did they kill) as well as using small inline pushbuttons for confirm, standby and invite to make event organization easier.

I hope to have another release in a few days, look for it soon!

Group Calendar 4.4 February 11th, 2009

Sometime, long ago, I put in support for manually-confirmed events. Recently it was reported that it wasn’t working and after looking into it my guess is that it broke about two years ago! I guess most people don’t use manual confirmations or they’ve just been putting up with the buggy behavior (thinking it was deliberate I suppose). Here’s 4.4 which fixes that problem and also fixes a bug which could cause your signup date to get changed if you viewed your attendance while on the standby list. I also fixed some UI cosmetic and behavioral bugs, nothing major though.
