Friday the 7th was a New Moon but Full Moon 3.1 didn’t circle the date! I assumed the moon’s cycle is less wobbly than it turns out to be, so now I’ve got a real moon phase calculation based on Jean Meeus’ Astronomical Algorithms book. It correctly circles 2008 March 7th as well as all the other dates I checked.
This one adds the often-requested movie in the sidebar. Just make sure you have a dual-core CPU before running with movies enabled.
Now with 14% more shadow and 135% more moon! Also adds a sidereal sky map I drew which helps you remember what the sidereal times mean.
This is a minor update which fixes an issue with the previous archive file as well as an issue which prevented the “rotate 180″ feature to not work.
Download now for Windows Vista
Full Moon 3.0 is now available. New in this version:
- The four phases are highlighted in the calendar
- A sidereal clock (it’s off by default, use the Settings to enable it)
- Rotate the moon image 180 degrees for more comfortable viewing from the Southern hemisphere
Two free Windows™ Vista™ gadgets are available for download. Full Moon shows you the current phase of the moon as well as a calendar for looking up phases in the future or past. Full Sun gives you realtime images from the SOHO solar observatory and easy access to movies and information on the SOHO site. Check them out on the Downloads page.
